A beautiful Birthday card using up your scraps!

When you just need to say Happy Birthday!

Unfortunately I still find male cards a bit of a struggle!  Why is it so much easier to design cards with flowers, ribbon and buttons!  However, this card came together really easily and I loved using up my scraps of paper.  It is a very simple design – stamp the splodge (technical term) from the “Love what you do ” stamp set twice in Smokey Slate ink.  To get a light colour I stamped it off first on my grid paper.

Add a sprinkling of dots and stars using Coastal Cabana ink.   I decided stars are allowed (not too girly) – hope you agree!  The stamp is from the “Little Twinkle” stamp set.

I die cut a selection of “happy”s from my scrap paper in blues.  The colours I used are Pool Party, Coastal Cabana, Bermuda Bay and Pacific Point.  I did also cut one from Balmy Blue which I used on the tag.

The “birthday” is in Night of Navy.  I’ve used the Well Written dies again, they are such a good investment.  I use them so much!  I find it easiest to use Fine-tip glue to stick the dies to the card front.  A little goes a long way.  I like to put a punch on top of them whilst the glue dries to make sure they stick down well.

The Well Written dies are a great investment for simple birthday cards.

The mount is a piece of Basic Gray cardstock measuring 10 cm by 14.3 cm.  I snuck on some rhinestones to add a bit of sparkle – is that allowed?

Simple male birthday card

Whilst I had all the bits on my desk I remembered to make a tag for the birthday present.  It feels so professional and really finished the gift off!  I had already die cut a happy so I simple used my tag punch and a 2″ piece of whisper white to make the base.  If you are organised it is best to stamp the dots and stars before adhering the happy but I have to admit I did it the other way around!  I also stamped the birthday in Night of Navy ink, initially direct onto the tag . But  I smudged it so I stamped it again on a scrap and stuck the new piece over the top!  oops!

The ribbon is the new beautiful Denim Ribbon tied with white Baker’s twine.   I resisted adding any rhinestones to the tag but looking at it now I think it could take it!  What do you think?
